AI is back in vogue, after a long hiatus since the movie The Matrix.
It looks and feels like irrational exuberance, both on the supply side and the demand side. But maybe it's not so irrational - the amount of data has exploded, and it need to be analyzed.
On the supply side, the race to build the best AI system is heating up. The emphasis at the moment seems to be on code - it's quality and complexity.
But it's not just Code that matters. It's the combination of Code and Data that makes an AI system useful.
However, the main differentiator could be the Quality of Data that feeds the AI's initial "learning" process. The right type of data will provide the right context for the AI system. It's like training an intern.
That's a virtuous cycle that could separate a "good" AI system from an average one.

Why this article?

I started looking into Artificial Intelligence (AI) because of my interest in IBM. And my interest in IBM was sparked by my interest in the Internet of Things (IoT), which was a result of my interest in ABB and Interdigital. Round and round we go. Now when I look back, it’s obvious to me that IoT a AI are intricately intertwined. Growth in one will unleash growth in the other. The link between them is a better, faster, way to collect data. And that means having an awesome wireless network like 5G.

This is (hopefully) one of several stabs at AI. As a civilization, we’re going to be touched by AI in more ways that we can probably imagine. As I watch in wonder, I hope that my unintelligent ruminations on AI become more intelligent over time.
